Beyond the beach resorts and concrete hotels, the island reveals a perfected harmony between landscape, art, architecture, and tradition. Inland, mountainous horizons, surreal lava fields and volcanic formations command the view, with bursts of colour from resilient flora breaking through the volcanic earth.
