Gado Gado 𓆏

[Roots exhibition, 2021]

Gado-Gado is a collection of images documenting a journey of healing shared by the photographer and friend. The imagery was captured during an open-ended exploration of South East Asia to reconnect with their roots and themselves. Each acting as an ode to the beauty of Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam and South Korea and a thank you to those places and their people for sharing and healing.

The name comes from a traditional Indonesian culinary dish of mixed vegetables with peanut sauce, which locals gave to the duo as an endearing nickname due to their mixed-race heritage. Each image captures nature as the star, defying how it is often treated as the bystander to human existence or as something disposable.
